Dial-up Modem

for Allen-Bradley PLC 5

The MARC™ Model 166-010 and 166-010-144 Dial-up Telephone Modems for the Allen-Bradley PLC 5 are full function modems that plug into one slot of the PLC chassis. The modem communicates with the PLC over a standard RS232 serial port and with other Bell and CCITT compatible modems over standard analog telephone lines. You can use the modem in Auto-Answer and Auto-Dial modes of operation. The 166-010 has a maximum connect speed of 2400 baud while the 166-010-144 has a maximum connect speed of 14,400 baud. The high speed modem also supports data compression allowing serial port communication rates up to 19,200 baud.
A new security feature has been added to the Dial-up modems. When the security feature is selected, the modem answers an in coming call normally but does not pass any data thru to the PLC. The modem hangs up and 30 seconds later places a call to a user defined number. Data is passed thru to the PLC only after connecting to the modem at the call back number.
